So I thought I would just write a quick post this morning to let you know about the most recent book I read, The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma. Robin Sharma is considered to be one of the worlds experts in leadership and personal mastery. He has written several books including his most famous, The Monk who sold his Ferrari. The 5AM Club is the most recent addition to his titles.
The concept is simple, get up every morning at 5AM. His idea is that by rising early you will be able to start off in a way that sets up your day amazingly. "Own your morning, elevate your life" is the tag line and Robin really believes it.
The core principle that he teaches is the 20/20/20 rule. This is where the "victory hour" as he calls it, between 5AM and 6AM, is broken down in to three 20 minute slots.
1. Move (exercise)
2. Reflect (meditate/contemplate)
3. Grow (read/podcasts/study)
The benefits of starting your day this way include:
- increased focus and productivity
- increased energy for the day
- decreased stress
- personal growth
I personally found it extraordinarily interesting and can see the potential benefits of starting my mornings off in this way. That's why, starting today I have joined the 5AM Club. Habit formation takes approximately 66 days (click here for the research) so Robin has provided a free mentoring program on his website, just click here. I plan on writing another quick post at the end of this process to let you know how i've gone.
